Objective of the Game
Beer Pong is a drinking game where two teams aim to throw ping pong balls into the opposing team's cups. The objective is to hit all of the opposing team's cups so the opponents have to drink them.
Game Materials
- A table (often 8 feet long but can vary based on available space)
- 12 or 20 plastic cups (typically Solo cups) per team
- Ping pong balls
- Beer or another drink of choice
Preparation
- Setting Up the Cups: Each player or team sets up typically 10 cups on each side of the table in a pyramid shape (4-3-2-1). Sometimes fewer cups are used (e.g., 6 - 3-2-1).
- Filling the Cups: The cups are filled a quarter to half full with beer or another beverage.
Gameplay
- Teams: Beer Pong is generally played by two teams, each consisting of 1 or 2 players.
- Starting the Game: Both teams throw a ball simultaneously. The team whose ball lands first or is closest to any target on the table starts.
- Throwing: Teams take turns throwing the ball. Each player throws once per round, aiming to land the ball in one of the opponent's cups.
- If a ball lands in a cup, the opposing team must drink the contents and remove the cup from the formation.
- Hit: A ball that lands in a cup means that cup is removed.
- Defense: Players can deflect or catch the ball after it hits the table or bounces off the rim of a cup.
- Winning: The game ends when one team has successfully removed all of the opponent's cups.
Additional Rules and Strategies
- Re-Racks: Each team can request that the remaining cups be rearranged into a specific shape at certain points during the game to increase aiming accuracy.
- Bouncing: A ball that bounces off the table before landing in a cup counts as two hits, but it can be swatted away during the bounce.
- “Redemption” Rules: When a team's last cup is removed, they have a chance at redemption to tie and extend the game.
Safety Notes
Since this is a drinking game, it's important to drink responsibly and adhere to any legal drinking age restrictions.
