Objective of the Game
Kategorum is a dynamic party game where players gather points by quickly thinking of and creatively considering terms that fit into certain categories. The objective is to collect the most points by the end of the game.
Game Components
- Cards featuring different categories
- Sand timer or stopwatch (optional, for time limits)
- Notepad and pencils for scoring
Setup
- Each player receives a notepad and pencil for scoring.
- The category cards are shuffled thoroughly and placed face-down at the center of the table.
Gameplay
- Drawing a Category Card: The first player draws the top category card from the deck and reads the category aloud.
- Naming Terms: Players take turns naming terms that fit the given category.
- Example: The category is “fruits.” Possible responses include “apple,” “banana,” etc.
- Every term can only be mentioned once.
- Scoring: Each correctly mentioned term earns the player one point.
- If a player can no longer name a new term, they are out for that round and can rejoin in the next.
Special Rules
- Avoid Repetition: If a term is repeated, that player receives a penalty, such as a point deduction, or is suspended from that category.
- Time Limit: Optionally, use a sand timer or stopwatch to accelerate thinking. If a player fails to name a term within the allotted time, they are out of the round.
End of the Game
The game ends after a predetermined number of rounds or once all cards are used up.
Winner
The winner is the player who has accumulated the most points by the end of the game.
Strategic Tips
- Try using uncommon terms to ensure you earn points.
- Remember other players' terms to avoid repetition.
- Use the timer for added excitement.
Possible Variations
- Categories can be adjusted according to players' interests to increase enjoyment.
- More complex or rare terms can be awarded more points.
