Objective of the Game:
The objective of House of Cards is to build the tallest and most stable structure using playing cards. Each participant can contribute to the height and stability of the shared or individual card house by skillfully stacking and placing cards.
Setup:
- Number of Players: 1 to unlimited
- Materials Required: At least one standard deck of 52 cards. For larger rounds or higher buildings, you can combine multiple decks.
- Space: A flat, smooth table or floor with enough space for the building card house.
Gameplay:
- Starting Point: The youngest player begins and places the first card between their thumb and forefinger into the desired shape, usually a triangle or rectangle.
- Order: Clockwise, each player takes turns placing a card to expand the structure.
- End of Turn: Once a round is complete, the next round begins with the player left of the previous starter.
Rules:
- Placement Rule: Cards must be placed on existing cards to support stability. They must not be propped against any other objects.
- Stability Rule: No card should be placed in a way that the building becomes unstable or threatens to collapse. If the house of cards collapses, the game ends, and the round is lost.
- Round Rule: The game can be played in rounds. Each round starts with a new card house. The player(s) with the tallest built card house win that round.
Strategic Tips:
- Base: Start with a wide and stable base to better support the weight of upper levels.
- Balance: Ensure an even distribution of cards to keep the weight evenly spread.
- Concentration: Steady hands and concentration are crucial for precise building and minimizing the risk of collapse.
Variations:
- Competitive Version: Each player builds their own card house, and the goal is to construct the tallest stable house within a set period.
- Cooperative Version: Players work together to erect the tallest possible card house. The focus in this version is the shared experience.
