Objective of the Game
Mad Libs is a party game that consists of completing a story by filling in blanks with random words to create a funny and entertaining tale.
Number of Players
At least 2 people can play Mad Libs, but there is no maximum. The number of players only depends on how many people want to contribute to the story.
Materials
To play Mad Libs, players need just a sheet of paper with a pre-written story that has several blanks, which need to be filled with specific types of words, and pens. Alternatively, an app or a book version of Mad Libs can be used.
How to Play
- Preparation:
-
One person acts as the host and selects a Mad Libs story. The story includes blanks that must be filled with specific types of words (adjectives, nouns, verbs, etc.).
-
Word Selection:
- The host asks the other players for specific types of words, without revealing the context of the story, e.g., "Give me an adjective," "Give me a noun," or "Give me a verb."
-
Players provide words that fit the requested word types. The host fills these words into the blank spaces of the story.
-
Reading the Story:
- Once all the blanks are filled, the host reads the completed story out loud.
- The fun is in hearing how the random words lead to quirky, humorous, and unexpected stories.
Strategies
Being a fun-oriented game, Mad Libs doesn't have strategic tips on how to "win." The focus is on creativity and enjoying the humorous stories together.
Special Notes
- Mad Libs is a great party game or icebreaker.
- It can be made more challenging by choosing more complex word types or words.
