Objective of the Game
In Kakerlakensalat (Cockroach Salad), the objective is to be the first player to get rid of all your cards. This is a fast-paced card game requiring quick reflexes and sharp attention.
Components
The game consists of 112 cards, evenly distributed into four vegetable types: tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, and cauliflower. An extra twist: you must never name the same vegetable twice in a row – by the same or previous player.
Setup
- Shuffle the deck and distribute all cards evenly among players.
- Each player places their pile of cards face down in front of them.
Gameplay
- Clockwise play: The first player starts by flipping over the top card from their pile and placing it in the middle. They must loudly announce the name of the displayed vegetable (e.g., "Tomato").
- The next player also turns over the top card of their pile and places it on the discard pile, announcing the vegetable's name. Remember: They must not name the same vegetable as named by the previous player. If it's the same, the player must either announce a different vegetable or say "Cockroach" if no other option exists.
- If a player makes an error or hesitates, they must take the entire discard pile and add it to their stack.
- The player who made the mistake starts the next round.
- The game continues until one player has discarded all their cards and wins the game.
Strategy Tips
- Focus and Concentration: Stay attentive to ensure you don't repeat the current vegetable.
- Preemptively say "Cockroach" when unsure about what can be named or if you can't identify the vegetable in time.
- Keep track of the sequence of cards played to avoid repeating a vegetable.
