Objective of the Game
The objective of Schätz it if you can is to score points by making the most accurate estimates in various categories. The player with the most points at the end wins the game.
Game Components
- A question book containing hundreds of questions across different categories.
- Scoreboards for each player.
- A timer.
Setup
- Each player receives a scoreboard and a pen.
- The question book is placed where all players can see it.
- One player is chosen as the quizmaster.
Gameplay
- The quizmaster selects a question from the question book and reads it aloud. Questions often take the form of "How many...", "How big is...", or "What age was...".
- All other players write down their estimate on their scoreboard. There is no discussion of the question until all answers have been submitted.
- Once all players have noted their estimates, the quizmaster announces the correct answer.
- Players note the difference between their estimate and the correct answer.
- The player with the smallest difference receives the highest points, with others receiving fewer points accordingly.
- The timer is used to limit the response time if needed.
Scoring
- 0-10% deviation from the correct answer: 3 points
- 11-20% deviation: 2 points
- 21-30% deviation: 1 point
- More than 30% deviation: 0 points
End of the Game
The game ends after a predetermined number of rounds or questions, agreed upon at the start. The player with the highest score wins.
Strategic Tips
- Some questions are based on general knowledge, while others are more estimation-based. Identifying the type of question can be helpful.
- Consider probabilities and avoid extreme guesses unless very certain.
- Observe other players' estimates during the game; this may give you hints towards the correct answer.
