Game Flow
Goal of a Round
In Just One, all players work together to guess the secret word on a card. The team attempts to guess as many words as possible correctly to achieve the best score at the end.
Round Procedure
- Choose the Secret Word:
- The active player (the Guesser) draws the top card from the pile without looking at it. The card should be held so that the other players can see the word to be guessed.
-
The Guesser selects a number from 1 to 5 to choose the word that needs to be guessed.
-
Provide Clues:
- The remaining players each write a single word as a clue on their boards for the secret word.
-
The clues are written secretly so the Guesser cannot see them.
-
Eliminate Duplicates:
- Once all clues are written, the clue-givers compare their words.
-
Identical clues are eliminated and not shown to the Guesser.
-
Show Clues and Guess:
- The remaining clues are shown to the Guesser simultaneously.
-
The Guesser has only one chance to guess the secret word based on these clues. They can either give an answer or pass.
-
Scoring:
- With a correct guess, the team keeps the card, scoring one point.
-
If the guess is incorrect or the Guesser decides to pass, the card is discarded, and the top card from the deck is also discarded (2 points lost).
-
Passing the Turn: The next player clockwise becomes the new Guesser, and a new round begins.
End of the Game and Winning
The game ends once all 13 cards have been played. The team's score is the number of correctly guessed cards. The goal is to guess as many cards as possible: - 0-5 points: Needs improvement. - 6-7 points: Decent effort. - 8-9 points: Well done. - 10-11 points: Great! - 12 points: Almost perfect. - 13 points: Perfect!
Strategic Tips
- Variety of Clues: Provide clues that are not too obvious, but also not too cryptic, to avoid duplicates.
- Knowing Your Teammates: Use your knowledge of teammates to provide hints that could be more relevant to the Guesser.
- Abstract Thinking: Sometimes, giving more abstract or unconventional clues can help avoid duplicates.
Just One is a delightful game that fosters creativity and teamwork, perfect for social gatherings with friends or family!
