Objective of the Game:

In Privacy, players answer interesting and often embarrassing questions anonymously and then try to correctly estimate the anonymous answers of the other players. The winner is the one who has collected the most points at the end.

Game Materials:

  • Question cards
  • Answer tokens (in two colors: "Yes" and "No")
  • Voting devices
  • Screens for secret voting
  • Scoring board
  • Player figures or score markers
  • Game rules

Setup:

  1. Each player receives a screen, a voting device, and equal amounts of "Yes" and "No" answer tokens.
  2. Shuffle the question cards well and place them as a face-down stack in the middle of the table.
  3. Each player places their figure or score marker on the starting position of the scoring board.
  4. Select a starting player.

Game Play:

  1. Asking Questions: The player whose turn it is draws a question card and reads it aloud.
  2. Example: "Have you ever cheated on a test?"

  3. Answering: Each player anonymously submits their answer by placing either a "Yes" or "No" token face-down behind their screen. Players can answer honestly or dishonestly.

  4. Voting: Every player then estimates how many players answered "Yes" in total. This number is secretly entered on the voting device.

  5. Evaluation:

  6. The answer tokens are collected, and the number of "Yes" votes is tallied.
  7. Each player who guessed the correct number of "Yes" answers receives 3 points.
  8. Players who guessed +/-1 away receive 1 point.

  9. Passing: The next player clockwise draws the next question card.

  10. End of the Game: The game ends when a predetermined number of rounds has been played or when no more question cards can be drawn.

  11. The player with the most points wins.

Strategic Tips:

  • Since players have different experiences, estimating others becomes a key element of the game.
  • Players might occasionally answer tactically dishonestly to create confusion.
  • Observe players and try to figure out who is more likely to say "Yes" or "No" to make better estimates.

Privacy is an entertaining game for any group that enjoys personal questions and guessing about others. Anonymity removes any hesitation in giving direct answers and provides room for laughter and exciting insights.
