Objective of the Game
The objective of Ochs am Berg is to reach the other side of the playing field without being caught by the "Ox".
Setup
- Number of Players: At least 4 players. There is no fixed upper limit.
- Playing Field: A free area or field is designated with a start and a finish line.
Gameplay
- Selecting the Ox: At the beginning, one player is chosen to be the "Ox". This player stands at the finish line.
- Positioning the Runners: The remaining players, acting as "runners", stand at the starting point of the playing field.
- Ox's Call: The "Ox" turns his back to the field and calls out "Ochs am Berg". Then he begins to recite a set phrase, such as "One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, turn around!".
- Runners' Movement: While the Ox is reciting, the runners can move towards the Ox. As soon as the "Ox" finishes and turns around, the runners must freeze immediately.
- Catching: If a runner is still moving after the Ox has turned around, that runner is sent back to the starting point.
- Role Switching: The game repeats until a runner reaches the finish line and touches the "Ox". This runner then becomes the new "Ox" in the next round.
Strategic Tips
- Movement: Runners should try to advance in small, controlled steps to be able to freeze more quickly.
- Timing: It's important to observe the "Ox's" timing and figure out when he is likely to turn around.
End of the Game
The game ends either when all runners have reached the finish line or after a predetermined number of rounds.
