Objective of the Game
Ladder Golf is a fun outdoor game where players aim to throw "bolas" (two balls connected by a string) to hook them onto a free-standing ladder structure. The main objective is to score more points than the opponent by placing the bolas on different sections of the ladder.
Setup
The game consists of a ladder structure with three rungs. Each rung has a different point value: - Bottom Rung: 1 Point - Middle Rung: 2 Points - Top Rung: 3 Points
Each player or team has a set of bolas.
Gameplay
- Number of Players: Ladder Golf is generally played by 2 players or two teams.
- Preparation: The ladder is set up on a flat surface. The normal distance from the throwing line to the ladder is about 15 feet (4-5 meters); however, this can be adjusted based on players' skill levels.
- Turns: Players take turns throwing their entire set of bolas. A round ends when all players have thrown all their bolas.
- Scoring: Points are counted after all bolas have been thrown. A bola that hangs on scores points according to its rung position.
- Winning the Game: The game ends when a player or team reaches exactly 21 points. If a player or team overshoots 21 points in a round, those points do not count.
Strategic Tips
- Aim High: Try to position the bolas as high as possible, targeting the top rung for maximum benefit.
- Defense: It can sometimes be advantageous to aim for already occupied rungs to knock the opponent's bolas off or reduce their scoring opportunities.
- Throw Variation: Experiment with different throwing positions and bola spins to achieve optimal hooking.
Special Considerations
- Ensure there is sufficient space around the play area for the safety of players and spectators.
- Playing Surface: A flat surface is preferable to avoid unpredictable bouncing of the bolas.
Ladder Golf is easy to learn and requires minimal equipment, making it an ideal game for outings, garden parties, and outdoor leisure activities.
