Objective of the Game
Warhammer Ancient Battles is a tabletop strategy game focused on historical battles. The objective is to defeat the opponent's army through tactical decisions and strategic use of one's own troops.
Components
- Army Lists (book-based army constructions)
- Miniatures (usually in 28mm scale)
- Measuring tape
- Dice (typically six-sided, D6)
- Terrain elements for battlefield setup
- Game table (usually a large table)
Setup
- Prepare the Battlefield: Arrange a realistic terrain setting on the table, which includes terrain types and obstacles that the armies must maneuver through.
- Deploy Armies: Both players set up their armies by selecting units according to point values from the army lists.
Basic Rules
- Activation Phase: The player on the "active side" starts the turn and moves units based on their movement value across the board.
- Shooting Phase: Troops with ranged weapons can fire, provided they haven't moved or possess special rules for moving and shooting.
-
Combat Phase: Units in contact with the enemy engage in melee combat and roll dice to determine damage.
-
Morale: Units suffering significant damage must roll for morale to determine if they flee.
Winning Conditions
The player who defeats all enemy units or achieves specific mission objectives wins the game.
Strategic Tips
- Army Composition: Know the strengths and weaknesses of your units. A balance between ranged and melee fighters is often crucial.
- Terrain Utilization: Leveraging cover and line of sight advantages can be decisive for victory.
- Morale Management: Pay attention to your unit's morale to prevent mass routs.
Warhammer Ancient Battles demands strategic thinking, planning, and a solid understanding of historical warfare methods. Each game can unfold very differently due to the flexible nature of army composition and terrain.
