Objective of the Game
The objective of the game Stress, also known as Speed, is to be the first player to get rid of all your cards by playing them onto central piles. The first player who has no cards left wins the game.
Setup
- Number of Players: This game is played with two players.
- Deck: You need a standard deck of 52 cards (no jokers).
- Dealing: Each player receives 26 cards, placed face down as their personal draw pile.
- Starting Positions: Each player places three face-down stock piles in front of them and then flips the top card of each to be face up, having three exposed cards at the beginning.
Game Play
The game proceeds in real-time, with no turns:
- Central Piles: Two starting cards are placed in the center of the table where each player can play cards onto these piles.
- Playing Rule: Players can play cards from their three face-up piles onto either central pile, a card can only be played if it is directly sequential (either ascending or descending). For example, a 5 can either be followed by a 4 or a 6.
- Replacing Rule: When one of a player's face-up piles is empty, they may take a card from their face-down pile and place it in one of their empty stock pile spaces.
- Real-Time Speed: Everything happens simultaneously with no set turns, meaning speed and quick thinking are crucial.
- Stalemate: If both players are stuck and cannot play any cards, they can simultaneously place the top card from their draw pile into the center and continue playing.
Strategies and Tips
- Try to be as quick as possible, but be careful not to play cards impulsively that you might need later.
- Watch what cards your opponent has in their face-up piles to predict their next moves and adjust your strategies accordingly.
- Keep the game flow constant and remain flexible with the card combinations you can play.
