Objective of the Game

Dixit is a creative and associative card game where players use stories, clues, or terms to present their cards in a way that others can guess without being too obvious. Players score points by making correct matches between the cards as both a storyteller and a guesser.

Game Components

  • 84 image cards: Each card is uniquely illustrated with artwork.
  • 1 scoring board
  • 6 player markers of different colors
  • 36 voting tokens: 6 sets in the colors of the player markers, numbered 1 to 6

Number of Players

  • 3 to 6 players

Gameplay

  1. Setup:
  2. Each player selects a player marker and the corresponding voting tokens of the same color.
  3. The image cards are shuffled, and each player receives six cards.
  4. The scoring board is placed in the center.

  5. Round Procedure: a. The Storyteller

    • Each round, a different player takes on the role of the storyteller.
    • The storyteller chooses one of their hand cards and gives a clue related to it. The clue can be a word, a sentence, a sound, or even a melody.

b. Players' Card Choice - The other players each choose a card from their hand that they think best fits the given clue and give it face-down to the storyteller.

c. Card Mixing and Presentation - The storyteller shuffles the received cards along with their own card and lays them face-up on the table.

d. Voting - All players (except the storyteller) vote privately on which card they believe is the storyteller's, using their voting tokens.

  1. Scoring:
  2. If all or none of the players guess the storyteller's card, the storyteller scores no points, and all other players receive 2 points each.
  3. Otherwise, the storyteller and all players who made correct guesses score 3 points each.
  4. Additionally, each player whose card received votes earns 1 bonus point for each vote.

  5. New Round:

  6. Each player draws one card from the deck to have six cards in hand again.
  7. The next player clockwise becomes the new storyteller.

  8. End of the Game:

  9. The game ends when the draw deck is empty or a player reaches 30 points.
  10. The player with the most points wins the game.

Strategic Tips

  • Hints as the Storyteller: The clue should be neither too obvious nor too obscure. Your goal is to have some, but not all, players correctly identify the card.
  • Card Choice as a Player: Choose a card from your hand that best fits the clue to mislead others into voting for your card.

Dixit requires creativity and empathy, as players need to put themselves in others’ mindsets to succeed as both storyteller and guesser.
