Objective of the Game
The goal of Bäumchen wechsel dich (translated to 'Little tree, move along' or similar to 'Musical Chairs for Kids') is to quickly secure a seat when the command is given, as there is always one less seat than there are players. The player who doesn't find a seat is eliminated.
Preparation
-
Set up the play area: Arrange chairs or cushions in a circle. There should be one fewer seat than the total number of players (e.g., for 10 players you need 9 chairs).
-
Start of the game: The players stand around the circle. One person is chosen to give the command "Bäumchen wechsel dich".
How to Play
-
Get Going: Players walk or dance around the circle, optionally with music playing.
-
The Command: When "Bäumchen wechsel dich" is called, all players try to secure a free seat immediately.
-
Elimination: The player who doesn't find a seat is out of the game.
-
Remove One Seat: After each round, an additional seat is removed, so there continues to be one fewer seat than remaining players.
-
Continue Playing: The game proceeds until only one player is left. This player is the winner.
Strategic Tips
- Positioning: Stay near a free seat as the command is anticipated.
- Anticipation: Try to read the body language of the person giving the command to predict when "Bäumchen wechsel dich" will be called.
Special Features
- You can adjust the difficulty by speeding up or slowing down the music.
- Another variant is introducing additional movement tasks during walking, like dancing or jumping.
This game combines physical activity with reaction skills and is great fun, especially for children.
