Objective of the Game
Bank Pool is a billiard game where the objective is to pocket a predetermined number of balls, with each ball needing to be played off at least one rail before it is pocketed.
Setup
The game is played on a standard pool table. You will need a set of 15 numbered balls and a white cue ball (the "cue ball"). The balls are racked in a triangle formation at the foot spot of the table; the player breaking plays from the headstring, and no specific ball has to be called on the break.
Basic Rules
- Number of Players: Bank Pool can be played with 2 or more players.
- Break Shot: The breaking player must drive at least one ball to a rail, but is not required to pocket a ball.
- Banking Rule: Every shot must be a "bank," meaning the object ball must hit at least one rail before being pocketed. Balls pocketed without meeting the "bank" requirement are spotted back on the table.
- Scoring: The usual agreed target score ranges from 5 to 8, depending on the number of players and the game agreement.
- Called Shots: Players must call the ball and the pocket to score. "Lucky shots" are not allowed.
- Fouls: If a player commits a foul, no balls pocketed on that shot count, and the balls are returned to the table. Fouls can include failing to contact the rail before the pocket, scratching the cue ball, or violating any other game rules.
Strategic Considerations
- Precision and Control: Since every ball must be banked off a rail, it's crucial to maintain control over the speed and direction of each shot.
- Positioning: Aim to not only pocket a ball but also position the cue ball for your next shot.
- Safety Plays: If a shot looks too risky, you can play a "safety" to put your opponent in a difficult position.
