Objective of the Game
Subbuteo is a tabletop football (soccer) game where the goal is to score more goals than your opponent. Two players play against each other, maneuvering their teams of miniature football figures across the pitch using their fingers.
Components
- A pitch resembling a football field
- Two sets of miniature figure teams (typically 11 per team)
- A miniature football
- Goals at each end of the pitch
Setup
To start the game, set up the pitch. Each team places its figures on their respective halves, usually lined up at the center of the pitch. One player is designated as the "home team" and the other as the "away team." The ball is then placed in the center.
Gameplay
Subbuteo is played in two halves.
- Starting the Game: The player with the home team begins with a kickoff by flicking one of his figures to hit the ball.
- Movement of Figures: Players flick their figures with their fingers to move them in the desired direction and distance.
- Ball Control and Passing: Players can pass the ball by flicking their figures to hit the ball. They must touch the ball to control it.
- Scoring a Goal: A goal is scored when the ball crosses the goal line between the goalposts.
- Defending: The opponent can use their figures to block shots or take possession of the ball.
Rules
- A player may only flick the player closest to the ball unless the ball is in motion.
- A foul is called if a player hits the ball incorrectly or illegally.
- A goal can only be scored if the ball is flicked towards the goal by an attacking team member.
Strategic Tips
- Positioning: Good positioning is key to success both in offense and defense.
- Apply Pressure: Stay close to your opponent to force mistakes or turnovers.
End of the Game
The game ends either after a set time or when an agreed score is reached. The player with the most goals wins. In the event of a draw, extra time or a penalty shootout may be played.
Subbuteo combines skill and strategy, promising fun for players of all ages.
