Objective

Confrontation is a miniature strategy game where players command armies to battle each other. The objective is to defeat the opponent's army by removing their miniatures from the battlefield or achieving specific mission objectives.

Components

  • Miniatures representing army units.
  • Measuring tape or ruler (in inches or centimeters) for movement and attacks.
  • Terrain pieces to create a realistic battlefield setting.
  • Dice, usually six-sided, for attacks and other random elements.
  • Rulebook with army lists and special abilities.

Setup

  1. Army Creation: Each player selects a faction and builds an army by selecting units based on point values, representing the unit's strength.
  2. Battlefield Setup: Players agree on a battlefield layout with terrain features offering cover and strategic challenges.
  3. Missions: Choose a mission or scenario detailing victory conditions, such as eliminating enemy units or capturing objectives.

Gameplay

Round Structure: The game consists of multiple rounds, divided into phases:

  1. Initiative Phase: Both players roll a die; the higher roll determines who acts first in the round.

  2. Activation Phase: Players take turns activating one unit at a time. When activated, a unit can move and perform an action (e.g., attack, use a special ability).

  3. Movement: Use a measuring tape to move units according to their movement stat.
  4. Attacks: Measure the range for attacks. To attack, roll dice to determine success, factoring in modifiers for cover or distance.

  5. End Phase: Check mission objectives, conduct morale tests for units facing losses, and prepare for the next round.

Special Rules

  • Cover: Terrain may provide protection to units, impacting attack rolls.
  • Morale: Units may retreat when suffering significant losses.
  • Abilities: Each faction and unit has unique abilities intended for strategic use.

Strategy Tips

  • Unit Placement: Position your units to secure key points and facilitate effective attacks.
  • Use of Terrain: Leverage terrain to your advantage for cover and to flank opponents.
  • Unit Composition: A balanced army of ranged and melee units offers strategic flexibility.

End Game

The game concludes when victory conditions are met, typically when an army is defeated or an objective is secured.
