Objective of the Game

The objective of Streetboccia is to position your Boccia balls closer to the target ball (often called "Pallino" or "Jack") than your opponent's balls. Players throw or roll their balls over a flat surface.

Materials

To play a round of Streetboccia, you will need: - One Target Ball (Pallino): This ball is smaller than the Boccia balls and is thrown first onto the field. - Six Boccia Balls per Team: Typically, these are color-coded to indicate team ownership.

Number of Players

  • Minimum: 2 players (1 vs. 1)
  • Maximum: 6 players (3 vs. 3)

Setup

  1. Find a flat playing surface that is large enough to conduct the game.
  2. Divide the players into two teams. Each team receives a set of colored balls.
  3. Agree on the "throw line", from which all players will throw their balls.
  4. Decide which team or player will start.

Gameplay

  1. First Throw: The starting player throws the target ball (Pallino) into the play area. It must land within a certain minimum and maximum distance from the throw line (usually between 5 and 10 meters).
  2. If the Pallino lands outside the allowed area, the other team may throw again.

  3. Tactical Throw: The team that threw the Pallino now also throws the first Boccia ball, aiming to get as close as possible to the Pallino.

  4. Alternate Throws: Then, the opposing team throws a Boccia ball. The throw alternates between teams, based on which team is "outside", that is, further from the Pallino.

  5. End of Round: When all balls have been thrown, the round ends. The team whose ball is closest to the Pallino scores a point for each ball closer to the Pallino than the closest opponent's ball.

  6. End of Game and Restart: The game continues until a team reaches a predetermined score, often 9 or 13 points. Then a new game starts.

Strategic Tips

  • Try to knock opponent’s balls away if they are too close to the Pallino.
  • Use the terrain; bumps or slopes can be used to slow or direct balls.
  • Target Control: A good eye and hand control are crucial for precise ball placement.

Streetboccia is a flexible and social variant of traditional Boules or Boccia and is perfect for relaxed afternoons outdoors.
