Objective of the Game
The objective of Tangram is to use all seven flat geometrical figures, called "Tans," to create a specific shape. These shapes can be animals, humans, letters, numbers, or abstract designs. The challenge is to arrange the Tans to precisely fit into the template without overlapping.
Materials
- A set of seven Tans, including:
- 5 right-angled triangles of different sizes
- 1 square
- 1 parallelogram
- Templates or challenges with illustrations of target shapes.
Gameplay
- Each player receives a set of the seven Tans. Alternatively, play can be cooperative, with players working together to solve a challenge.
- Choose a challenge that shows a silhouette or shape to be recreated.
- Try to arrange the seven Tans to form the required shape. Important rules include:
- All seven Tans must be used.
- The Tans must not overlap.
- All Tans must lie flat.
- Once the shape is correctly formed, a new template can be selected, or the next player can try their hand.
Strategic Tips
- Start with the larger pieces to establish the basic structure of the shape. This provides a good basis to fit the smaller Tans.
- Note that the parallelogram can often be the trickiest piece to place, as it may need to be flipped to create asymmetrical shapes.
- Pay close attention to angles and symmetry within the shape to be recreated.
Variants
- Timed Mode: How many shapes can you complete in a fixed time?
- Competitive Mode: Multiple players compete to form the same shape as quickly as possible.
