group 2 - 4 Deutsch

Objective of the Game

Russian Billiards is a variant of billiards where the goal is to sink balls into the pockets of the billiard table. Unlike pool billiards, it is played on a larger table with narrower pockets, and there are specific rules regarding the balls.

Equipment and Setup

  • Table: A billiard table larger than a standard pool table.
  • Balls: 16 balls in total, consisting of 15 light-colored object balls (usually white or ivory) and one dark (usually red) cue ball.
  • Cue: Each player needs a cue stick to strike the balls.

Rules

  1. Setup: The 15 object balls are racked in a pyramid, while the cue ball can be placed freely.
  2. Break Shot: The player must aim to direct the cue ball to pocket an object ball or have either the cue ball or an object ball hit the rail if failing to pocket a ball.
  3. Objective in Shots: The goal is to pot the object balls. The cue ball can be used to pocket the object balls or be the target ball to pot other object balls.
  4. Scoring: Each potted object ball earns one point. The aim is to be the first to reach a predefined score, typically 8 points.
  5. Fouls: If no ball is potted and no rail is hit, the player incurs a penalty, transferring points to the opponent.
  6. Winning: The first player to reach the required number of points wins the game.

Strategic Tips

  • Pocket Precision: Because the pockets are narrower than pool, shot precision is critical.
  • Defense: In tricky ball layouts, it might be advantageous to play defensively, leaving the opponent with no easy opportunities to score.
  • Backspin and Stop Shots: These techniques can be effectively used to position the cue ball advantageously for subsequent shots.

Russian Billiards combines skill and strategy and requires patient and precise gameplay to succeed.
