Objective
The goal of Sprouts is to be the last player able to make a valid move. Players connect points and add new points, transforming the play area and gradually restricting the opponent's options.
Setup
You need a piece of paper, a pen, and at least two players. Initially, draw a certain number of points on the paper. Three points are standard, but advanced players might start with more.
Gameplay
- Turn:
- A player connects two points or connects a point to itself with a line.
- The line can be straight or curved but must not pass through any existing lines or points.
-
Exactly one new point must be added on this line.
-
Rules:
- Each point can have a maximum of three lines emanating from it. A point with three lines is 'locked' and can't be used anymore.
-
Lines cannot intersect other lines or pass through existing points.
-
Continued Play:
- Players take turns until no more valid moves can be made.
End of the Game
The game ends when no player can make a move. The player who made the last valid move wins.
Strategic Tips
- Thinking Ahead: Since each point can have at most three lines, it is strategically wise to connect points in a way that limits the opponent's options.
- Blocking Points: Try to lock points quickly to restrict the playing field for your opponent.
Sprouts can become quite thought-intensive and is a great game to enhance logical thinking and spatial awareness. Enjoy playing!
