Objective
Decrypto is a team-based game where two teams compete against each other. Each team tries to correctly communicate their own codes while deciphering the opponent's codes.
Game Components
- 2 Screens (one for each team)
- 48 Code cards (numbered 1 to 4)
- 110 Keyword cards (each containing a single word)
- 8 Interception tokens (in the form of yellow and black tokens)
- 1 Hourglass
- Writing materials (paper and pens)
Setup
- Form Teams: Players form two teams with at least two players each.
- Code cards: Each team draws four code cards and places them face down in the numbered slots of their screen.
- Keyword cards: Each team draws four keyword cards and displays them openly in front of their screen. Each keyword card corresponds to a number (1, 2, 3, 4).
- Interception tokens: Place the interception tokens in the middle of the table.
Gameplay
The game is played over several rounds. Each round consists of the following phases:
1. Codemaster Phase
In this phase, one player from each team is appointed as the Codemaster. The Codemaster randomly draws a sequence of three digits from their team's code cards. This sequence indicates the order of the words the team must guess. This sequence is kept secret from their teammates.
2. Clue-Giving Phase
- The Codemaster provides their teammates with three clues corresponding to the order of the drawn code cards. Each clue should be a single word. The goal is for the team to guess the correct sequence of code numbers.
- The opposing team's Codemaster also notes down the clues.
3. Deciphering Phase
- Team members attempt to guess the correct sequence of code cards based on the given clues.
- Simultaneously, the opposing team also tries to decipher the sequence to intercept and score points later.
4. Resolution Phase
- Both teams reveal their answers.
- If the own team guesses the correct sequence, nothing happens.
- However, if the opposing team guesses the sequence successfully, they earn an Interception Token.
- If the own team guesses incorrectly, they receive a Failure Token (black token).
End of the Game
The game ends when one of the following occurs:
- A team collects two Interception Tokens and wins the game.
- A team receives two Failure Tokens and loses the game.
Strategic Tips
- Clue Crafting: Clues should be understandable for your team but difficult for the opponents to guess.
- Pattern Recognition: Opposing teams should look for repeating patterns or similar clue methods to better intercept codes.
- Coordination: Good communication and team strategy are essential for success.
