Objective of the Game
Bullshit is a card game in which players aim to get rid of all their cards as quickly as possible, either honestly or by bluffing. The first player to have no cards left wins the game.
Components
A standard deck of 52 playing cards (including jokers if desired), with card values ranging from 2 (the lowest) to Ace (the highest).
Setup
- Shuffle the deck thoroughly.
- Distribute all the cards evenly among the players. Some might receive one card more if the number of players doesn't divide evenly into the card deck.
- Players keep their hands secret and may organize them as they wish.
Gameplay
- Order of Play:
The player to the left of the dealer starts the round.
Play proceeds clockwise. -
Playing Cards:
The active player places one or more cards face down in the center and declares what card(s) they supposedly are. For example, "three threes."
The next player must then lay down the next higher rank of cards as declared, moving in sequence through the deck (e.g., following "three threes" with "one or more fours"). -
Challenge:
Any other player may call out "Bullshit" if they believe the active player is lying.
If no "Bullshit" is called, the turn passes to the next player. -
Checking and Penalties:
When "Bullshit" is called, the played cards are revealed.- If the active player was lying, they must pick up all the previously played center cards.
- If the active player's claim was true, the player who called "Bullshit" must take all the central cards.
-
Resetting Play:
Play continues with the next player setting the next goal rank, according to the rules (i.e., if caught lying, the rank remains the same, otherwise it follows the next sequential rank).
Winning
The first player to successfully play all their cards wins. If that action prompts a "Bullshit" call and the player ends up taking cards, the next player to correctly place all their cards will win.
