Objective of the Game
Cockroach Poker is a fun and simple bluff game where players aim to avoid collecting too many of the same animal cards. The loser is the first player to have four of the same animal cards face up in front of them.
Game Components
- 64 cards, with 8 cards of each of 8 different animals: Cockroach, Rat, Stink Bug, Frog, Spider, Fly, Scorpion, and Bat.
Setup
- Shuffle: Shuffle all the cards thoroughly.
- Deal: Each player is dealt 8 cards. These cards are held in hand, concealed from others. Extra cards are set aside.
- Choose the First Player: Decide who starts the game.
Gameplay
Start a Round
- Pass a Card:
- The starting player selects a card from their hand and places it face down in front of any chosen opponent.

This player declares what animal the card supposedly depicts. Note: They can lie or tell the truth.

Opponent's Response:
- The selected player has two options:
- Accept: They can look at the card and decide if the proposed animal type is correct or not. If they believe the statement is true, they say "I think it is", if not, "I think it is not".

Pass: Without looking at the card, they pass it along with their own declaration to another player. The next player has the same options.

Reveal:
- When a player decides to inspect the card closely, they must guess:
- If they guess correctly (identifying whether the player lied or told the truth), the starting player must reveal and place the card open in front of them.
- If they guess incorrectly, they must reveal and place the card open in front of them.
Ending the Game
- The game ends when a player has four of the same animal face up in front of them. This player loses, while all others win.
Strategy Tips
- Bluffing: It is crucial to bluff convincingly to make opponents guess incorrectly.
- Watch Other Players: Pay attention to which cards are already in play and observe players' reactions to understand their strategies.
- Risk Assessment: Weigh up if it is better for you to accept the cards or pass them on, depending on your collection of cards.
