Objective of the Game
In Cyberpunk 2020, players dive into a gritty, high-tech future, taking on the roles of various characters in a world dominated by technology and intrigue. The main objective is to survive this complex landscape while pursuing individual goals, whether it's wealth, power, or simple survival.
Game Preparation
Each player starts by creating a character sheet, which includes: - Attributes (like Intelligence, Dexterity, Strength) - Skills (such as Hacking, Negotiating, Shooting) - Equipment - Background Story
The Game Master (GM) prepares a scenario, which the players will navigate through, often involving missions or quests.
Basic Rules
- Rolling and Challenges: A central mechanic in Cyberpunk 2020 is rolling a ten-sided die (d10), often combined with an attribute or skill modifier from the character sheet. The total needs to exceed a certain difficulty threshold set by the GM to succeed.
- Initiative & Actions: In combat situations, the order of actions is determined by initiative rolls. Each round, characters can move and perform one action, like attacking, taking cover, etc.
- Damage & Health: Attacks that hit have their damage calculated based on weapon used and circumstances, subtracting from character's hit points. Healing and recovery are crucial for game strategy.
Special Rules and Strategies
- Netrunning: A unique mechanic for specialized characters who hack systems. Netrunners enter virtual spaces to hack into systems, requiring specific gear and risks.
- Equipment and Cyberware: Characters can be enhanced with cybernetic implants and advanced gear to improve abilities but at the cost of affecting their humanity score.
- Accumulating Reputation: Choices have consequences. Reputation is important in the Cyberpunk world, influencing how NPCs (Non-Player Characters) interact with players.
Game End
There is no set end, as RPGs often span ongoing campaigns. Players typically work together towards shared objectives or pursue long-term personal goals.
Much of the enjoyment in "Cyberpunk 2020" comes from creatively engaging with the futuristic world, strategically using technology, and interacting dynamically with both players and the broader game environment.
