Tower of Tokio - Board Game

Strategy, Abstract Game

group 2 Deutsch

Objective of the Game

The goal of Sogo is to be the first player to line up four of your pieces in an uninterrupted sequence. The sequence can be horizontal, vertical, or diagonal, and can occur in any direction on the 4x4 game grid board, including in the height dimension.

Components

  • A square game board with a 4x4 grid.
  • 64 game pieces in two different colors (usually, one set is white, the other is black).

Setup

  1. Players decide who will play which color. Each player takes all pieces of their chosen color.
  2. The game board is placed between the players. Players take turns placing their pieces.

Basic Rules

  • Each player, in turn, selects one of their pieces and places it on a square of the board.
  • A piece can be placed either directly onto the board or on top of already placed pieces.
  • It is possible to build upwards, and the goal is to arrange the pieces in a line of four pieces.
  • Lines can be horizontal, vertical, diagonal, or even zigzag through multiple levels (four levels possible in total).

Special Features and Strategies

  • Planning: Be sure to use the depth and height to block your opponent while setting up your own line.
  • Blocking: Pay attention to your opponent’s attempts to set up their own sequences of four. If necessary, intercept them.
  • Three-Dimensional Thinking: Since the pieces can also be stacked upwards, it's crucial to plan ahead in all potential building heights.

End of the Game

The game ends immediately when a player succeeds in placing four of their pieces in a continuous line on the board, regardless of the direction. This player is the winner.

If the board becomes fully occupied and neither player has achieved a sequence of four, the game ends in a draw.
