Objective of the Game
Das Nilpferd in der Achterbahn is a party game where players compete against each other by completing tasks to collect the most chips. The goal is to have the most chips by the end of the game.
Components
- A game board with a roller coaster track
- A hippo figure
- Chips in different colors
- Task and event cards
- Markers for each player
- Hourglass
Setup
- Place the game board in the center and position the hippo figure on the start space.
- Each player chooses a marker and places it on the start space.
- Shuffle the task and event cards separately and lay them down face-down.
- Mix the chips and place them within reach.
Gameplay
- Start of the Round: The oldest player begins, followed by clockwise turns.
- Draw a Task: Draw a task card and read it aloud. Tasks typically require physical actions, miming, or answering questions.
- Completing Tasks: The player must complete the task within the hourglass time limit (1 minute).
- Completed: On successful completion, the player draws a chip.
- Failed: If unsuccessful, there is no reward. The player does not move their marker.
- Event Cards: If the hippo lands on an event space (marked on the board), the player who caused this draws an event card and follows the instructions.
- Hippo Movement: After each round, the hippo automatically moves one space forward.
- End of Round: When the round ends, the next player takes their turn clockwise.
Strategic Tips
- Pay close attention to the tasks and adjust quickly to their demands.
- Observe other players to exploit their weaknesses, for example, by drawing tasks that are difficult for them.
- Keep track of your chip count to know if you're in the lead or need to catch up.
End of the Game
The game concludes when the hippo reaches the end of the roller coaster track. Players then count their chips. The player with the most chips wins.
Special Rules
- Joker Chips: Some chips can be counted as jokers or bonus points, depending on agreement.
