Objective of the Game
The objective of the game Icecool is to be a pupil penguin in an ice school, collecting enough fish and avoiding being caught by the hall monitor to score points. Each player takes turns being the catcher, while others try to escape and gather fish.
Components
- 4 game boxes that together form the school building
- 4 penguin figures
- Fish tokens in player colors for marking
- Score cards with values 1-3
- 1 start player marker
- A rule booklet
Setup
- Assemble the rooms from the boxes to form the ice school. All the boxes are interlocked using the specified circles to link them.
- Each player picks a penguin figure and fishes of their color. These fish are hung over the corresponding doors on the board.
- Place the penguin figures on the starting line within the school building.
- Each player draws a random card to determine the starting player.
Gameplay
1. Rounds:
The game is played over several rounds. In each round, there is a "catching player" and "running players" (the other players). The catcher tries to tag the runners, while the runners aim to collect their fish.
2. Starting and Turns:
- The catcher starts in the middle of the school building.
- Runners begin at the starting line.
- Each player flicks their penguin figure across the school rooms. The objective is to flick their penguin through the school doors to collect the fish hanging above them.
3. Catching:
- The catcher attempts to "tag" the runners by flicking their figure to collide with a runner. If a runner is tagged, they must give their ID card to the catcher.
4. Scoring:
- If a runner finishes their move through a door with one of their fish, they remove the fish and draw a scoring card (worth between 1-3 points).
- The round ends when the catcher has tagged all runners or all runners have collected their fish.
5. End of a Round:
- Collected ID cards provide extra points.
- The catcher rotates so that each player has a turn being the catcher.
End of the Game and Strategies
The game ends after each player has been the catcher once. The player with the most scoring cards wins.
Strategic Tips:
- Improving your flicking technique is crucial to accurately navigating through doors.
- As the catcher, it may be strategic to occupy central positions to quickly respond to runner movements.
- As a runner, avoid being near the catcher and seize opportunities to gather points effectively when the catcher is occupied.
