Objective
Lama Dice or L.A.M.A. Dice is an easy-to-learn dice game where players aim to keep their total score as low as possible. Players earn points if they cannot discard their cards. The goal is to have the fewest points at the end of the game.
Components
- 3 Dice, each numbered 1-6 with a llama (π) on the sixth side.
- 56 Cards in seven different colors (eight cards each in numbers 1 to 6 and a set of llama cards).
- 50 Chips, consisting of 20 white (1 point) and 30 black (10 points).
Setup
- Shuffle the cards and deal six cards face down to each player.
- The rest of the cards form a draw pile, and the top card is turned face up to form the discard pile.
- Each player gets 10 chips of their choice (1-pointers or 10-pointers).
Gameplay
The game is played over several rounds until a player reaches more than 40 points.
- Round Start: The youngest player begins and play continues clockwise.
- Rolling Dice: The active player rolls the three dice.
- Discarding Cards:
- The player may discard cards matching the number on top of the discard pile. For example, if a β3β is on top:
- A β3β must be covered with a β3β.
- A β4β can be placed on a β3β.
- A llama can be placed on any other llama.
- Can't Discard Cards:
- If the player cannot or chooses not to lay down any cards, they pass and must take a chip as penalty.
- Ending Round: If a player gets rid of all their cards, the round ends immediately.
- Scoring:
- All players with remaining cards score the sum of the card values. Llamas are worth 10 points each.
- Chips are taken accordingly.
- New Round: Cards are reshuffled, and a new round begins unless the game ends.
Game End
The game ends when a player reaches more than 40 points. The player with the fewest points wins.
Strategic Tips
- Try to be flexible and discard high point cards early.
- Pay attention to the success of other playersβ dice rolls.
- Good use of llamas can provide a substantial point advantage.
