Objective of the Game
Wat’n dat!? is a party game designed for teams to guess words or phrases. The main goal is to foster fun and teamwork in larger groups or party settings.
Game Components
- A deck of cards with words or phrases
- A sand timer or stopwatch
- A paper and pen for scorekeeping
Setup
-
Form Teams: Divide into two teams. While there is no strict player limit, at least 4 players are recommended to form two teams.
-
Prepare the Deck: Shuffle the deck of cards with the terms and place it ready for play.
-
Set Rounds: Decide how many rounds to play, with each round consisting of one turn per team.
How to Play
-
Guess a Word: A player from the active team draws a card from the deck without showing it to their teammates.
-
Explain Without Naming: The player must explain the term to their team without using the word itself. They can avoid using similar word components as well as relying on gestures, sounds, or related words.
-
Time Limit: The explainer has a set time limit to help the team guess the term, usually around 60 seconds.
-
Scoring: Each correctly guessed word earns the team a point. After their turn, the other team takes over.
-
Switching Explainers: After each guessed term, switch the explainer within the team until the round ends.
Special Rules & Tips
-
Pass Option: If a term is too challenging, the explainer can pass and draw a new card once per round.
-
Strategy: The team should develop a strategy, focusing on keywords that commonly appear in the game for quicker responses.
-
Variable Time: In a party setup, you may adjust the time to increase or decrease tension as desired, prioritizing fun.
-
Variants: Advanced players can introduce restrictions like banning gestures or sounds for an added challenge.
End of Game
After completing the agreed number of rounds, tally the points. The team with the most points wins.
Wat’n dat!? is a delightful game that enhances creativity and word comprehension while providing lots of laughs. Enjoy the teamwork and often hilarious explanations.
