Objective of the Game

Numenera is a role-playing game set in a distant future. Players are tasked with exploring the secrets of this world, experiencing adventures, and overcoming challenges. They play as characters who utilize the strange technologies and magical relics of past ages, known as Numenera, for their own purposes.

Game Components

• Rulebooks: These contain rules, adventures, and information about the game world.
• Character sheets: Each player has a sheet to record their character’s attributes, skills, and equipment.
• Dice: Typically, a 20-sided die (d20) is used.
• Maps or miniatures: Used to visualize the game world and character positions.

Setup

1. Character creation: Each player creates a character by setting the stats for Might, Speed, and Intellect and choosing from various predefined Types, Foci, and Esoteries.
2. Choose a Game Master (GM): One person is selected as the GM who narrates the story and describes the world.
3. Equipment and skills selection: Players select different pieces of equipment and special abilities to customize their characters for the upcoming adventure.

Gameplay

Basic Rules

• Descriptions: The GM describes the environment and events. Players respond by saying what their characters do.
• Rolling dice: Players roll dice to determine if their characters are successful in their actions. The GM sets the difficulty which can be modified by the character’s skills and equipment.
• Gaining Experience: Players gain experience points by completing tasks and overcoming challenges, which can be used to improve their characters.

• Discovery: A key element is discovering Numenera. These can act as tools, weapons, or even magical artifacts.
• Companions: Characters can gain allies to assist them in combat or offer other abilities.
