Objective of the Game

8-Game is a card game played with a standard deck of playing cards. The aim of the game is to score the most points by succeeding in each of the eight different game modes.

Materials Needed

  • One deck of playing cards (32 cards used in Skat)
  • Score sheet and pen to keep track of scores

Setup

  1. Shuffle the cards thoroughly.
  2. Each player draws one card; the player with the lowest card becomes the dealer.
  3. The dealer deals four cards to each player.
  4. The remaining cards form the draw pile.

Gameplay

The 8-Game consists of eight different rounds, each with its own objectives. These rounds are played in a predetermined order:

  1. Highest Card: The player who plays the highest card wins this round.
  2. Lowest Card: Opposite of round 1.
  3. Color Collection: The aim is to collect the most cards in a chosen color.
  4. Pairs: Players try to form pairs.
  5. Three of a Kind: If a player manages to collect three of the same cards, they win the round.
  6. Straight: A sequence of consecutive numbers wins.
  7. Flush: Five cards of the same suit win.
  8. King's Round: Special round with unique rules.

Each round, players earn points based on their performance in that round.

Additional Rules

  • Point distribution varies per round and is decided at the beginning.
  • Between rounds, a player may draw a card from the deck or trade a card.
  • Bluffing is allowed strategically to mislead opponents.

Scoring

At the end of eight rounds, all points of each player are tallied, and the player with the most points is declared the winner.

Strategy and Tips

  • Consider when it's worth exchanging cards.
  • Keep track of the cards that have been played to better decide when which tactic is favorable.
  • Bluffing can play an important role in winning, so think carefully about when to employ it.
