Objective of the Game:
Aton is a strategic two-player game where players are priests competing to gain dominance in the construction of temples in the ancient Egyptian city of Aton. The goal is to gain supremacy in the four temples by cleverly deploying priest power. The game ends when a player fulfills one of several victory conditions: controlling all the temple spaces of a certain color, all the spaces in a particular temple, or reaching a specific score threshold.
Components:
- 4 Player Boards (temples)
- 110 Cards (divided into 24 card sets)
- 2 Player Colors (with stones of two colors)
- Score Track
Setup:
- Place the 4 temple boards in a row between the two players.
- Each player chooses a color and gets the corresponding priest stones.
- Shuffle the cards and each player starts with four cards in hand.
How to Play:
- Card Drawing: Begin each round by drawing cards until you have four cards in hand again.
- Card Selection: Both players secretly select from their four cards and place them on four stacks, each corresponding to one of the four temple zones.
- Reveal and Execute: Both players reveal their cards simultaneously and execute effects in the order of the zones:
- Zone 1: Determines the player order for that round.
- Zone 2: Increases a player’s score on the score track.
- Zone 3: Compels adding or removing priests to or from the temples.
- Zone 4: Allows additional actions in the temples, such as movements or control effects.
- Gameplay Tactics: Since not all cards can be used every round, players must strategically choose which cards to play in which zones. Timing and control are crucial to strengthening your position and weakening your opponent.
Special Strategies and Tips:
- Aim to strategically win Zone 1 to act first and outmaneuver your opponent.
- Watch which spaces are filled in the temples to achieve a temple-wide majority victory.
- Use the effects of Zones 3 and 4 wisely to gradually solidify your control.
- Forward thinking is essential since any zone can potentially accelerate the game's end.
Enjoy the game, and may good divine fortune be on your side!
