Number of Players
- Minimum: 4 players
- Maximum: unlimited
Materials
- Cards with terms
- A timer or hourglass
- A notepad for scoring
Gameplay
-
Team Formation: Players form two teams with an equal number of players.
-
Game Setup: Each card has a main term and some taboo words that cannot be used. The cards are shuffled and placed face down in the center. Prepare the timer.
-
Guessing: One player from the first team draws the top card and tries to explain the main term so that their team can guess it, without using any of the taboo words.
-
Example: If the term is "Cat" and the taboo words are "Animal," "Meow," "Pet," you might say: "A furry creature that likes to drink milk and chase mice."
-
Time Limit: The player has a set amount of time (typically 60 seconds). During this time, the team tries to guess as many terms as possible.
-
Scoring:
- The team earns a point for each correctly guessed term.
-
If a taboo word is mentioned, the player must discard the card and move to the next one.
-
Switch: After the time runs out, the turn goes to the other team.
-
End of Round: A round ends when every player has had a turn. You can play as many rounds as you like, ideally until one team reaches a predetermined score.
Strategic Tips
- Avoid Known Phrases: Avoid using synonyms or phrases that are close to the taboo terms.
- Creative Descriptions: Use creative or humorous descriptions to keep the team entertained and alert.
- Team Understanding: The better your team understands your descriptions, the more points you can score.
