Objective
The objective of the game Langsamer Peter is to be the first to discard all the cards in your hand. These cards are placed on the table in the sequence dictated by the game's rules. The player who is left with cards at the end loses the game.
Number of Players
Langsamer Peter can be played with 2 to 6 players.
Game Materials
- A standard deck of 52 playing cards without jokers
Gameplay
-
Dealing Cards: At the beginning of the game, each player is dealt an equal number of cards (usually the entire deck is distributed evenly). If there are fewer than four players, some cards might remain undealt.
-
Starting Player: The player to the left of the dealer starts the game.
-
Taking Turns: The player whose turn it is plays a card from their hand onto the table. The cards must be placed in a continuous sequence. This means that if a 3 is played on the table, only a 4 (regardless of the suit) can be placed subsequently. If a player cannot play a fitting card, they must draw a card from the draw pile.
-
Change Direction: If an 8 is played, the direction of play is reversed. Thus, the next player in the opposite direction takes the turn.
-
Skipping a Turn: Playing a 2 skips the next player's turn.
-
Drawing Cards: When a 7 is played, the following player must draw two cards from the draw pile unless they can also play a 7, passing the drawing requirement onto the next player.
-
Winning Conditions: The first player who discards all their cards wins the game. The last remaining player with cards in hand is the "Langsamer Peter" and loses.
Strategic Tips
- Hold on to skip and reverse cards for strategic moments to disadvantage subsequent players or to manipulate the game flow in your favor.
- Observe other players and try to remember which cards they draw or discard. This will help you gauge their hand better.
- Save your 7s to use them if another player plays a 7 against you, thus countering the drawing requirement.
Langsamer Peter is a game that hinges on both luck and strategic timing, depending on the cards you are dealt and how you choose to use them.
