Objective
Toguz Kumalak is a strategic board game for two players belonging to the Mancala family. The goal of the game is to collect more seeds (known as "Kumalay") in your "Kazna" (a special pit for collected seeds) than your opponent.
Game Materials
- A board with two rows, each having nine small pits ("Korgool") and one larger pit ("Kazna") at each end.
- A total of 162 seeds, with 9 seeds in each pit at the start of the game.
Setup
Players sit across from each other, each controlling a row of pits and the larger Kazna pit to their right.
Game Play
- Player's Turn:
- A player picks up all seeds from one of their pits.
-
They then sow these seeds one by one into subsequent pits counterclockwise, including both their own and the opponent’s pits.
-
Capturing Seeds:
- If the last seed lands in an opponent's pit, and the total number of seeds in that pit becomes even (including the just placed seed), the player captures those seeds and places them into their Kazna.
-
If the total in the opponent’s pit is odd, no seeds are captured, and the turn ends.
-
Tuzdyk:
- If a player places seeds such that an opponent's pit ends with exactly 3 seeds, that pit can be marked as "Tuzdyk". This means it belongs to the player, and any seeds sown into this pit in the future are immediately transferred to the player's Kazna.
-
Each player can have only one Tuzdyk at any time, and the 9th pit cannot be chosen as a Tuzdyk.
-
End of the Game:
- The game ends when a player cannot play any seeds from their pits to start a turn.
- The player with the most seeds in their Kazna is declared the winner.
Strategy Tips
- Thinking Ahead: Planning ahead is crucial in Toguz Kumalak. Consider how many seeds to sow and where to maximize your capture.
- Select Tuzdyk Wisely: Since you can have only one Tuzdyk, choose this pit carefully to gain a strategic advantage.
- Blocking Moves: Look for ways to thwart your opponent from creating even numbers or choosing advantageous Tuzdyk pits.
Toguz Kumalak is a game of strategy and foresight that requires thinking a few moves ahead to control the pace and gain an advantage over your opponent.
