Turkish Draughts, Dama - Board Game

Strategy, Abstract Game

group 2 Deutsch

Objective of the Game

The goal of Turkish Draughts is to either capture all the opponent's pieces or block them so they can no longer move.

Game Components

  • A board with 8 x 8 squares
  • A total of 16 pieces per player, typically in black and white colors

Setup

  1. At the start of the game, players place their pieces on the first two rows closest to them.
  2. The two middle rows remain empty.

Basic Rules

  1. Turn Order: Players alternate turns, with the white pieces going first.
  2. Movement: Regular pieces move straight forward or sideways. They cannot move backward.
  3. Capturing: If an opponent's piece is adjacent horizontally or vertically and the square beyond it is empty, they can be captured. The capturing piece jumps over the opponent's piece and removes it from the board.
  4. Multiple Captures: If after capturing one piece, another capture is possible, this can continue as a multi-jump move.

Kings

  1. Promotion: A piece becomes a king if it reaches the opponent's back row.
  2. Moving Kings: Kings can move any number of squares horizontally or vertically and capture in the same way.

Strategic Tips

  • Control the Center: Aim to control the middle of the board to allow more maneuverability.
  • Defense: Keep your pieces from becoming isolated and vulnerable to multi-jumps.
  • Force Moves: Sometimes, it's beneficial to create threats that force your opponent into a disadvantageous position.

Winning the Game

The game ends when: - A player has no more pieces. - A player can make no legal moves. - Both players agree to a draw.

Turkish Draughts offers simple rules but involves strategic thinking and tactical planning.
