Objective of the Game
In "1812: The Invasion of Canada", two teams compete to control North America during the War of 1812. One team consists of the American forces (US Regulars and US Militia), while the other team consists of the British forces (British Regulars, Canadian Militia, and Native American Warriors). The goal is to control the majority of territories in North America by the game's end.
Setup
- Set up the board: Place the board in the middle of the table. It shows a map of North America with marked territories.
- Select factions: Players choose or draw lots for which factions they will control. Two players on each side, with one controlling both factions.
- Place units: Each faction places its units in the corresponding starting areas according to the manual.
- Distribute cards: Each player gets the relevant cards for their faction, including action cards that provide special bonuses or actions.
- Prepare reinforcement and decks: Shuffle the decks and have them ready. The reinforcements are organized per regulation.
Gameplay
- The game is played over several rounds, consisting of various phases:
### 1. Action Phase: - Each faction draws an action card that determines how many territories they can invade or how many units they can move. - Players take turns moving units into adjacent enemy territories to gain control.
### 2. Reinforcement Phase: - Through certain actions or territory gains, factions receive reinforcement units that can be deployed in the next round.
### 3. Battles: - If enemy units invade a territory, battles occur. These are resolved using dice rolls. Each faction has unique dice that represent special abilities.
### 4. End of Round: - At the end of each round, check if any victory conditions are met, such as controlling a certain number of territories.
Special Rules
- Neutral Territories: Some territories start as neutral and can be captured by either side.
- Event Cards: Some action cards allow event cards to be played, dramatically impacting the game.
- Alliances: Within teams, alliances can be formed to plan joint attacks and defend territories efficiently.
Strategic Tips
- Balance offense and defense: While aggressive expansion is crucial, leaving territories undefended can lead to quick losses.
- Use your action cards wisely to gain advantages at critical moments.
- Coordinate with your team to win battles and thwart enemy strategies.
In the end, the team that maintains control of the most strategic points on the board or meets other victory conditions outlined in the rules wins the game.
