Objective of the Game
Asse hoch (translated as "Aces High") is a card game for 3 to 7 players where the goal is to win as many tricks as possible. The player with the most tricks at the end of the game wins.
Game Materials
- A standard deck of 52 cards (no jokers).
Setup
- Shuffle the deck well and deal an equal number of cards to each player. The exact number of cards can vary depending on the number of players.
- Players arrange their cards in their hands as they see fit.
Gameplay
Basic Rules
- The game is played clockwise.
- Objective: Attempt to win each round's trick. A trick consists of one round where all players play one card.
Starting a Round
- The player to the dealer's left begins and plays a card face-up.
- Other players follow clockwise, playing one card face-up each.
- Players must follow suit if possible. If a player doesn't have a card of the lead suit, they may play a card of another suit.
Winning a Trick
- The highest card of the lead suit wins the trick. Cards are ranked from highest to lowest as follows: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, followed by number cards 10 to 2.
- In the event that two or more players play an Ace, the first Ace played wins the trick.
Next Round
- The player winning the trick collects all played cards of that round and places them face down in front of them.
- This player then starts the next round by playing a new card.
Special Features and Strategies
Strategic Considerations
- Holding onto Aces: Aces are the strongest cards and should be kept for winning critical tricks.
- Forcing Off-Suits: When unable to follow suit, it can be advantageous to shed high cards of other suits.
- Observing Opponents: Pay attention to which cards have been played to infer possible remaining cards of the opponents.
End of the Game
The game ends when all cards have been played. Players count the number of tricks they've won. The player with the most tricks wins the game. In the case of a tie, the player with the most Aces in their tricks wins.
