Objective of the Game
The Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (WHFRP) is primarily a roleplaying game focused on creating and experiencing stories within the grim Warhammer universe. The main aim of the game is for players to collaborate in storytelling, develop characters, and undertake adventures.
Preparation
- Game Master (GM): One player acts as the Game Master. They are responsible for the world in which the game takes place, representing Non-Player Characters (NPCs), and guiding the story.
- Players: The remaining players create their characters, which they will guide through the Warhammer universe. Each player selects a character background and career.
- Character Sheets: Players fill out a character sheet detailing attributes, skills, equipment, and background.
- Dice: WHFRP typically uses ten-sided dice (d10) for various checks and combats.
Basic Rules
- Attributes and Skills: Characters have attributes like Strength, Agility, and Intelligence which influence their ability to accomplish tasks and overcome challenges.
- Checks: To perform tasks or overcome challenges, players roll a d10 and compare it to a target number derived from an attribute or skill.
- Combat: Combat is conducted in rounds. Characters with the highest initiative act first. Attacks and defenses are resolved via dice rolls against weapon values and opponent's armor.
- Damage: If an attack hits, damage is determined and subtracted from the target's health.
- Magic: Characters capable of casting spells use their magic attribute and spells, which come with specific rules regarding resources and risks.
Game Progression
- Narrative Setting: The GM describes the world and scenes that characters traverse. Players interact with the world by describing their character's actions.
- Decisions and Checks: For critical decisions or actions, players perform dice checks to determine success.
- Combat Scenes: In case of combat, players make tactical decisions; weapon choices, terrain, and team attacks matter.
- Character Development: By completing quests and defeating enemies, characters earn experience points, which are used to improve attributes and skills.
Strategic Elements
- Resource Management: Whether it's ammunition, magical resources, or money, managing these wisely can provide a crucial advantage.
- Teamwork: Well-planned cooperation and role distribution among players can turn the tide in otherwise lost situations.
- Character Development: Thoughtful decisions regarding character progression can determine long-term success or failure.
The Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay offers a rich gaming experience centered on roleplay, group decisions, and narrative twists orchestrated by the GM.
