Objective of the Game
The goal of Night of the Magicians is to be the first player to push your cauldron into the middle of the game board, reaching the illuminated campfire. The game is played in the dark, utilizing fluorescent game pieces and board that glow in the dark.
Components
- 1 game board with an elevated rim
- 4 magician figures, each with its own cauldron
- Various obstacles
- 1 fluorescent campfire
Setting Up the Game
- Players each choose a magician with a cauldron.
- The game board is set up in darkness, and components like magicians, cauldrons, and the campfire should be sufficiently charged with light to glow.
- Obstacles are placed randomly on the game board, while the campfire is set in the middle.
Game Play
- Players sit around the game board relying mainly on their senses and tactics due to the darkness.
- The youngest player begins, then play continues clockwise.
- On your turn, you may carefully move one of your game pieces, either a cauldron or a magician, with one hand. The goal is to guide your cauldron to the center without knocking it off the board.
- Be cautious not to push obstacles or cauldrons and magicians off the playing area.
Special Rules
- If a player knocks a cauldron or magician off the board, it is removed from the game entirely.
- The campfire itself must never be bumped or moved.
Tips and Strategies
- Proceed with caution, and try to maximize your sense of touch to navigate the board.
- You might gently nudge opponent cauldrons closer to the edge.
- Plan several moves ahead and observe (to the extent possible in the dark) the strategic moves of your opponents.
