Objective of the Game

The objective of Seikatsu is to score the most points by strategically placing your tiles on the board. Points are scored both during the game for grouping birds and at the end of the game for lining up flowers of the same type.

Components of the Game

  • 1 Game Board with a pattern of circles (these are the positions where players can place their tiles).
  • Tiles: There are 54 double-sided tiles depicting birds of different colors and flower patterns.
  • Player Score Boards: Each player receives a board to track their points.
  • Colored Scoring Markers for tracking each player's points on the score board.

Game Setup

  1. Arrange the Board: Place the game board in the middle of the table. Shuffle the tiles face down and distribute each player a set of 2 tiles.
  2. Determine a Starting Player: Choose the first player either randomly or by mutual agreement.

Gameplay

The game is played in clockwise turns. During a turn, a player does the following:

  1. Place a Tile: The player places one of their two tiles onto an open circle on the board.
  2. Score for Bird Groups: After placing a tile, the player checks if the placed bird forms a group with adjoining birds of the same type, vertically or horizontally. Points are awarded as follows:
  3. 1 point for the placed tile itself.
  4. +2 additional points for each adjacent same bird.
  5. Draw a New Tile: Draw a new tile from the stack so you always have two tiles in your hand.

The game ends when all circles on the board are filled.

End Scoring

Once all the circles are filled, players count additional points through flower scoring from their respective "pavilion": - Row Scoring: Each player looks at rows starting from the edge of their pavilion and counts the most identical flowers in a row. - Players receive additional points based on each matching flower sequence, where larger matches yield more points.

Strategy and Tips

  • Bird Grouping: Aim to place birds to form large groups, which can lead to significant point increases.
  • Assess Flowers: Keep an eye on developing flower rows, especially those visible from your pavilion. These greatly impact your end scoring.
  • Turn Planning: Think ahead to optimally use tile placement and maximize points for both bird groups and flower rows.

Conclusion

Seikatsu is a strategic board game with simple rules but deep tactical play. It combines friendly competitiveness with the tranquility of pattern-building, appealing broadly with its aesthetic and strategic nature.
