Objective of the Game
Jakkolo, also known as Sjoelen or Dutch Shuffleboard, is a traditional and entertaining family game. The main objective is to slide a set number of discs (usually 30) across a smooth board, attempting to score the highest number of points by landing them in designated scoring slots at the end of the board.
Game Components
- A long, narrow game board with a smooth surface.
- 30 discs, typically made of wood, flat and round.
- At the end of the board, there are four scoring slots, each with different point values, usually 2, 3, 4, and 1 point (from left to right).
Game Rules
-
Setup: Set the Jakkolo board on a flat surface. It's easiest to set the board at the edge of a table.
-
Preparation: Each player gets the 30 discs per round.
-
Round Procedure:
- Slide the discs one at a time across the board, aiming to get them into the scoring slots at the end.
- Try to distribute the discs as evenly as possible among the four slots, as complete sets yield the most points.
-
If you miss the slots or land multiple discs in one, you can attempt to reposition during the next round.
-
Scoring:
- A complete set consists of one disc in each of the four slots and scores 20 points.
- You then earn additional points based on surplus discs: Slot 1 = 1 point, Slot 2 = 2 points, Slot 3 = 3 points, and Slot 4 = 4 points.
-
Example: If you score 6 sets of 20 points (hit each slot at least once) and 2 extra discs are in the Slot 3, that would be 620 + 23 = 126 points.
-
Rounds: After each round, the next player takes a turn to slide the discs and accumulate points.
-
Game End: Typically, a predetermined number of rounds are played, and the player with the highest final score wins.
Strategic Tips
- Aiming: Precision is key. Use your fingers skillfully to slide the discs into the slots delicately.
- Distribution: Aim for an even distribution of discs from the start.
- Disc Recovery: Use subsequent rounds to reposition non-scoring or stuck discs for better point opportunities.
Remember, Jakkolo requires practice to master the right force and the technique for sliding the discs. Enjoy the game!
