Objective
Sugaku is a strategy game designed to enhance your mathematical skills and logical thinking. The objective of the game is to solve various mathematical problems by placing numbers on a grid, aiming to collect the most points.
Components
The game consists of a game board with a 9x9 grid and a set of number cards from 1 to 9, which occur multiple times.
Setup
- Each player draws 5 number cards at the beginning.
- The game board is placed in the center of the table.
- Decide which player goes first.
Gameplay
- Turn: Starting with the first player, each player takes turns placing one or more number cards on the grid to solve a mathematical problem. A problem might require a row or column to sum up to 15, for example.
- After placing the cards, the player draws as many cards as they have used, maintaining a hand of 5 cards.
Rules
- Number Placement: Numbers can only be placed on empty spaces.
- Mathematical Problems: Problems can include sums, products, or other mathematical expressions set beforehand.
- Scoring:
- Players earn points for each correctly solved problem, with rewards varying based on difficulty.
- Unresolved problems or incorrect number combinations yield no points.
- Game End: The game concludes when no more cards can be drawn or the grid is completely filled.
- The player with the most points wins.
Strategy Tips
- Think Ahead: Plan which number combinations could be useful in future turns.
- Bluff and Block: Attempt to block opponents by limiting their possible moves.
- Resource Management: With a limited number of cards, decide which cards to keep for future use.
Note: The game can be played at different difficulty levels by making the mathematical problems more challenging, making it suitable for both children practicing basic arithmetic and adults working on more complex equations.
