Objective of the Game
The objective of Farkle is to be the first player to accumulate a predetermined score, usually 10,000 points. Players collect points by rolling six dice and achieving specific combinations.
Materials Required
- 6 Dice
- Something to keep score (e.g., paper and pencil)
How to Play
-
Setup: Each player gets a sheet to record their scores. The youngest player typically goes first.
-
Player's Turn:
- A player rolls all six dice.
- After each roll, players must set aside one or more dice that scored points. Scoring combinations include:
- A single 1 is worth 100 points.
- A single 5 is worth 50 points.
- Three of a kind is worth 100 times the number rolled (except for three 1s, which are worth 1000 points).
- Additional points for rolls like four of a kind, small straights (1 through 5), large straights (2 through 6), or other special combos, depending on house rules.
- If no points are rolled, it's a Farkle and the player scores zero points for that turn, passing the dice to the next player.
-
Collecting Points and Risk:
- After each scoring roll, a player can either stop and record their points, or continue rolling the remaining dice to try to earn more points.
- If all six dice are set aside for points, the player can roll all six dice again to try and earn more.
-
End of Turn:
- A player's turn ends when either a Farkle is rolled, or they opt to stop and bank their points.
- The play then passes to the next player.
-
Winning the Game:
- The game ends when a player reaches or exceeds the target score. Other players still get one last turn to try and beat the score.
- The player with the highest score at the end wins.
Key Strategies and Tips
- Risk Management: If you've rolled high points, consider stopping to keep those points safe.
- Combination Savvy: Know which combinations yield high points and aim for them.
- Avoiding a Farkle: Avoid risky rolls where the chance of a Farkle is high.
Farkle is a simple yet exciting game of both luck and strategy. Enjoy your game!
