Objective of the Game
Ouril, also known as Mancala, is a strategic board game where the objective is to collect more seeds than your opponent. It requires both skill and tactical thinking.
Game Components
- A Mancala board with two rows of six pits each.
- 48 game pieces referred to as seeds.
- Two store pits, one for each player at the end of their respective row.
Setup
- Place 4 seeds in each of the 12 pits.
- Each player sits opposite each other, using one of the two rows.
- Both players have a store pit to collect their gathered seeds.
Basic Rules
- Player Selection: Decide on a starting player, or let the youngest player go first.
- Choosing a Move: The active player selects one of their own pits that contains seeds.
- Sowing the Seeds:
- The player picks up all seeds from the chosen pit.
- Moving clockwise, the player places one seed into each pit, starting with the next pit to the right of the chosen one.
- If the end of a row is reached, continue sowing in the opponent's row.
- Capturing Seeds:
If the last seed of a round lands in a pit that now contains exactly 2 or 3 seeds, the player may capture them, but only if it is in the opponent's row. - The turn ends after capturing, with multiple pits able to be captured if conditions are met.
Winning & Game End
- The game ends when a player can no longer make valid moves, meaning no seeds remain in their row.
- Players count their collected seeds. The player with the most seeds wins the game.
Strategy Tips
- Control: Keep pits with 2 or 3 seeds ready to enhance the chance of capturing from the opponent.
- Prevention: Monitor the opponent's pits to prevent them from accumulating a large number of seeds in strategic positions.
- Long-term Plan: Plan moves ahead to put the opponent in a position where they have to play passively.
