Objective of the Game

In Chaos in the Old World, each player takes on the role of one of the four Chaos Gods of Warhammer: Khorne, Nurgle, Tzeentch, or Slaanesh. The goal is to spread power and corruption across the Old World. Players aim to either amass the most victory points or achieve their individual win conditions, which can be unlocked during gameplay.

Game Components

  • Game Board with a map of the Old World
  • Chaos God Player Mats for each god with specific abilities and victory conditions
  • Numerous Miniatures for cultists, demons, etc.
  • Power Cards for each Chaos God
  • Upgrade Cards
  • Corruption Tokens to mark corruption in different regions
  • Dice for combat
  • Various Markers and Tokens to support game mechanics

Game Setup

  • Each player chooses a Chaos God and takes the corresponding player mat, miniatures, and cards
  • Place the game board in the center
  • All player figures start off the board
  • Necessary markers and tokens are prepared
  • Event cards are shuffled and set aside

Gameplay

The game takes place over several rounds, each consisting of five phases:

1. Event Phase

Draw an event card and resolve its effects. This might involve placing a new victory point reward that could influence the game ending.

2. Summoning Phase

  • Players gain power points with which they can summon miniatures to the board or play cards.
  • Starting with the player who is furthest on the ceremonial wheel, players take turns performing one action.

3. Corruption Phase

  • In regions with enough corruption tokens, escalation may occur, changing victory point mechanics or offering other advantages.

4. Battle Phase

  • In each region where opposing figures meet, combat occurs. It is resolved through dice rolls and comparisons.

5. End Phase

  • Check if a player has met their victory condition or if chaos has escalated further.
  • Remove markers and prepare for the next round.

Victory Conditions

There are two main ways to win: 1. Victory Point Tracker: The first god to reach a certain number of victory points wins the game. 2. Individual Victory Condition: Each god has specialized conditions that can end the game immediately and result in a win for that god.

Strategic Tips

  • Khorne: Focus on combat superiority and aggressively placing your units
  • Nurgle: Emphasize spreading corruption in populous regions
  • Tzeentch: Use magic and manipulation of power to your advantage
  • Slaanesh: Target regions with heroes to maximize your benefits

The game is highly interactive, as each god interacts with the others in unique ways. Plan your moves carefully; the right tactics make the difference between victory and defeat.
