Objective of the Game

Bauernheinrich is a classic trick-taking card game. The objective is to win tricks and strategically use the Jack of Hearts and the Nine of Spades to accumulate the most points by the end of the game.

Game Material

You'll need a standard 52-card French deck, excluding jokers. There are no trump suits, but the Jack of Hearts ("Heinrich") and the Nine of Spades ("Bauer") have special roles.

Number of Players

The game can be played with 3 to 5 players.

Start of the Game

At the beginning, all cards are dealt evenly among the players. Any remaining cards, if any, with an odd number of players are set aside.

Gameplay

Bauernheinrich is played clockwise:

1. Playing Order: The player to the left of the dealer begins by playing a card of their choice.
2. Trick Rules: Subsequent players must follow the suit of the card led, if possible. If they cannot, they may discard any card.
3. Special Rules: The Jack of Hearts, "Heinrich", and the Nine of Spades, "Bauer", are special cards:
4. Heinrich (Jack of Hearts): Beats all other cards unless the Bauer is played.
5. Bauer (Nine of Spades): Beats every card played, including the Heinrich.
6. Winning a Trick: The player with the highest card of the led suit, or with a Heinrich or Bauer, wins the trick and leads the next round.

Scoring

After all rounds have been played, points are counted as follows: - Each won trick is worth 1 point. - Possessing the Jack of Hearts at the end of the game may yield bonus points, depending on the variation. - The player with the most points after a set number of rounds wins the game.

Strategic Considerations

• Strategic Heinrich: Timing the play of the Jack of Hearts is crucial. Avoid using it too early.
• Saving the Bauer: The Nine of Spades should be saved for critical tricks.
• Suit Management: If you can't follow suit, use the opportunity to discard high value cards from another suit or to take control over important opponent cards.
