Objective

In Feudal, each player takes on the role of a medieval lord attempting to expand and defend their territory. The main goal is to defeat all opposing monarchs by capturing their castles and becoming the dominant power on the board.

Components

  • A modular, hexagonal game board
  • Various pieces representing different military units (e.g., knights, peasants)
  • Castles and fortresses as playing pieces
  • Possible expansions or additional game fields

Setup

  1. Each player chooses a color and receives the corresponding set of pieces.
  2. The game board is assembled by randomly connecting the hexagonal tiles, allowing for a variable board setup and different strategies in each game.
  3. Players place their pieces on their designated starting side of the board according to starting rules that restrict piece placement to certain areas.

Gameplay

  • Movement: Each piece can move a certain number of spaces per turn. Peasants, for example, can move only one space, while knights can move multiple spaces.
  • Combat: When opposing pieces are on adjacent spaces, a battle can occur. Combat rules are based on the movement and defensive strength of the units involved.
  • Siege: Castles and fortresses can be besieged, which is the main goal to strike at the opposing monarch.

Combat Rules

  1. If a piece loses in hand-to-hand combat, it is removed from the board.
  2. The successful attacker can move into the defeated opponent's space.
  3. Castles provide significant defense, increasing the defenders' survival chances.

Winning the Game

The player who manages to defeat all opposing monarchs or take control of opposing castles wins the game. Strategic placement and movement, as well as clever use of own pieces, are crucial to success.

Strategic Elements

  • Positioning: Initial placement of units is critical to the game's outcome.
  • Defense: Sometimes it is wiser to take a defensive approach and wait for the opponent to make mistakes.
  • Surprise Attacks: Use the board's modularity to launch attacks from unexpected sides.
