Objective of the Game
Roulette is a gambling game where players bet on which slot of a rotating wheel a ball will land. The objective is to place bets on one or more outcomes that can be accurately predicted when the ball lands on the wheel.
Setup
Roulette consists of a roulette wheel and a roulette table. The wheel has 37 pockets (in the European version) or 38 pockets (in the American version), each numbered and alternately colored red or black, except for the zero (or double zero), which is green.
Gameplay
- Placing Bets: Players place their chips on various betting options on the roulette table. There are two main categories of bets:
- Inside Bets: These involve individual numbers or small groups:
- Straight Up: Bet on a single number.
- Split: Bet on two adjacent numbers.
- Street: Bet on three consecutive numbers in a horizontal line.
- Corner: Bet on four numbers in a square.
- Six Line: Bet on two neighboring streets for a total of six numbers.
-
Outside Bets: These involve larger groups of numbers:
- Red or Black
- Even or Odd
- Low (1-18) or High (19-36) Numbers
- Dozens: Bet on one of the three dozen groups (1-12, 13-24, 25-36).
- Columns: Bet on one of the three vertical columns on the table.
-
Spinning the Wheel: The croupier spins the roulette wheel in one direction and throws the ball in the opposite direction.
-
Determining the Outcome: As the ball comes to rest on a slot, the croupier announces the winning number and color. The winning bets are paid out, and the losing bets are collected.
Odds and Payouts
- Straight Up: 35:1
- Split: 17:1
- Street: 11:1
- Corner: 8:1
- Six Line: 5:1
- Column/Dozen: 2:1
- Red/Black, Even/Odd, High/Low: 1:1
Strategic Considerations
- Martingale System: Bet the same amount on an even-money bet and double the bet after each loss, aiming to recover previous losses when winning.
- D'Alembert System: Increase the bet by one unit after each loss and decrease it by one unit after each win.
Special Notes
Roulette is highly dependent on luck, and no strategy can guarantee a win. Players should play responsibly and monitor their betting.
Number of Players
- There is no formal limit on the number of players, as many can bet against "the house" simultaneously.
Roulette is a classic casino game offering a variety of betting options and excitement despite its simplicity.
